Q&A WITH JD. BARKER
Q: What inspired you to start writing your first novel?
A:I’ve been writing my entire life but for the first half of my adult life I worked behind-the-scenes as a book-doctor and ghostwriter. Ultimately, six of the books I wrote hit the NYT list with other people’s names on the covers, that prompted me to start writing under my own name.
Q: What’s your favorite part about connecting with readers during events like this?
A: Writing is such a solitary thing. I absolutely love getting out and talking to readers. Hearing what they like (and don’t like) about books helps me recharge my batteries.
Q: Do you have a favorite writing spot or ritual when working on a book?
A:I’ve had many writing spots over the years but in 2019 my wife and I bought our dream house. I’ve got a fantastic office lined with bookcases and a fireplace. It’s perfect. To put that in perspective, my first writing “spot” was in a renovated closet.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to avid readers?
A:Life is too short to read a bad book and when you find a good one, hold on tight.
Q: Who are the top three authors you read without question?
A:Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Thomas Harris.
